This season we’ve added perhaps the most provocative brand to our roster yet. Richardson, both a publication and a clothing line, is based out of New York City and operated by British industry veteran Andrew Richardson. Formerly a stylist, editor, and contributor to V Magazine, Richardson has who has worked with a legion of famed photographers and celebrities. His collaborations span across cultures and industries and include working with the likes of Mario Sorrenti, Steven Klein, and Bruce La Bruce. In addition, Richardson aided Madonna in the direction of her 1992 book titled Sex, and assisted in the development of Supreme’s publications through Rizzoli.
Since launching his initial publication in 1998, Richardson’s modus operandi has always been to expand the private-public arena and confront issues of sexuality in fashion, art, and film. Consistently a provocateur who prefers to operate in the margins of culture, Richardson enlisted Jenna Jameson for his initial A1 issue and included Richard Prince’s ‘Spiritual America’, which included a photograph of then 11-year-old Brooke Shields in a bath-tub. The goal of confronting issues of sexuality in fashion, art, and film has remained the same throughout eight publications. Issue A8, the first to be carried at Nomad, features a profile on erotic dancer-turned-model Black Chyna, along with a look at the ultra-influential strip club Magic City in Atlanta.
Operating out of a boutique on the Lower East Side, with a Hollywood shop opening early 2016, Richardson has expanded his brand to clothing tees, hoodies, coaches’ jackets and a variety of accessories. His clothing has quickly gained cult status amongst Downtown New York crowd and been co-signed by James Jebbia of Supreme and always ahead of the curve global retailer Dover Street Market, with an in-store installation held this year. Nomad is currently stocking a selection of graphic tees from Richardson with illustrations from artists Gene Bilbrew & William Crawford and a number of accessories from the brand. Expect more drops from Richardson at the shop in the near future.
